We are delighted to announce that our new purpose built 'Implant Suite' is now fully operational and has added a new dimension to our practice.

Our principal dentist, Mark Emms, is now able to perform even the most complicated and specialised dental implant procedures using the latest equipment and the most state-of-the-art technology available in dentistry implant procedures.

A new CT scanning facility has been integrated into the implant suite to give us the ability to offer patients CT scans on the premises. It features a Kodak 3000d scanner, which has the ability to take ceps as well as CT scans. This allows Mark to assess the bone levels prior to implant placements to ensure that there is sufficient bone to place implants. If not, there are several options available to patients, all of which can be offered here at The Priors.

The implant suite also affords Mark and his team much more space to work in as well as an extra consultation room and waiting lounge for the comfort and convenience of our patients.

On Friday November 04th 2011, Practice Manager, Lindsey Edwards accompanied our Principal Dentist, Mark Emms, to the Private Dentistry Awards 2011, at the Intercontinental Hotel Park Lane in London.  The Priors Dental Practice was extremely proud to be shortlisted as a finalist for the Best Orthodontic Practice Award 2011, recognising skills of excellence from our resident specialist Orthodontist John Scholey.

"We were delighted to be put forward for the award again this year, especially considering the number and quality of the entries received by the awarding body." Said Lindsey. "We were advised that the Judges had to work much harder than last year to select the winners, so to be shortlisted as a finalist is an outstanding achievement in itself. We are extremely proud of this accomplishment and must congratulate John and his orthodontic team at the practice for their hard work and commitment towards achieving such high standards in Orthodontic treatments."

Dr John Scholey has a lot to smile about

Dr John Scholey has a lot to smile about. Consultant orthodontist, John Scholey, has been hailed as the best in the UK at giving people their smiles back. The NHS dentist has won the orthodontic smile category of the Smile Awards for the second time running.

He works as the lead clinician at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire and Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust.

The Smile Awards honour clinical excellence in dental and facial aesthetics.

At the Staffordshire hospitals, Dr Scholey works with youngsters and adults with severely deformed smiles.

Typically, treatment lasts about two or three years because the hospital trusts only treat the most severe cases.

"Three years is a long time, but teeth move slowly so we are restricted by the speed we can do things, " explained Mr Scholey.

Wow factor

"You can see when the braces come off there is a wow factor and confidence is improved.

"More and more research has shown there are psychological effects of spaced and sticky out teeth, it can affect self esteem."

Jon won a Smile Award the first time around after his work with Jade Williams.

Jade, aged 19, received seven years of treatment, and said the Orthodontics Department at the hospital was like her "second home".

It's different for girls

Before and after pictures of Jade's teeth show the transformation

She told BBC Radio Stoke: "Obviously being a girl, I think it's a lot harder, growing up being image conscious.

"And when my teeth weren't the best, I was self-conscious, I didn't really have much confidence and now I'm like a completely different person.

"I'm always the person taking photos on nights out, smiling, all my friends call me smiley, it's like a world of difference now."

John qualified in dentistry in 1992.

He has private practices in Staffordshire and he lectures widely on clinical orthodontics across Europe and the Middle East.
