Dental Implants

During the past 30 years the use of dental implants has changed dentistry beyond recognition. Implants are used as a permanent way to replace missing teeth - one tooth or more.

WHAT IS A DENTAL IMPLANT?
A dental implant is essentially a surgically placed substitute for a natural root. Each implant is placed into a surgically prepared socket at the precise location of the intended tooth. This component, which is made from titanium, can then provide the foundation for long - term support of crowns, bridges or dentures.

Implants offer a highly reliable form of treatment. If you are missing just one natural tooth, then one implant is normally all that will be needed to provide a replacement. Larger spaces created by two or more missing teeth do not necessarily need one implant per tooth, however, the exact number of implants will depend upon the quality and volume of bone at each potential implant site.

An implant consultation with Dr. Emms is available. If you require more information, please call the practice on 01785 712388 or alternatively, email us your contact details.

Bridges
Used to replace missing teeth, these are generally made from porcelain fused to a metal base for increased strength. They are designed to compliment your existing teeth, both in general appearance and colouring. They are firmly attached to adjacent teeth.

Cosmetic Dentistry

We provide many options of cosmetic dentistry which include: Implants, Crowns, Tooth whitening and veneers.

If you would like to know how your smile can be improved or would like to discuss something you would like to change about your teeth - then please call us. There are many possibilities available to improve your smile and enable you to look your best.

Crowns
These are tooth-shaped, artificial coverings for damaged or unsightly teeth. They are usually tooth-coloured, but in some cases they may be metal.

Dental Examination
An extra and intra-oral examination complete with a full clinical charting.

Dentistry for Children

Looking after your teeth is imperative to keeping your teeth for life. Therefore, maintaining a healthy mouth during childhood is essential.

We pay much attention to ensuring that your child is at ease with us, and understands the importance of a good diet and regular cleaning of teeth.

Some children need to wear braces so they will have straight teeth as adults. We can provide assessments on children's teeth and can provide orthodontic appliances as needed.

Dentures
If you have lost your teeth, you may need dentures. These may be fixed or removable. We suggest an appointment with us to discuss your requirements.

Endodontics
WHAT IS ENDODONTIC TREATMENT?
The procedure known as endodontic or root canal therapy is concerned with preserving a tooth in which infection has occurred. It is necessary to remove the infected pulp tissue to prevent further spread into the surrounding tissues.

Endodontists remove the inflamed or infected pulp, carefully clean and shape the inside of the roots, and then fill and seal the roots. Afterwards, you return to your general dentist who will place a permanent filling on the tooth to protect it and restore it to full function.

Private Appointments are available now - Please ask for details.

Natural colour fillings
These are white, durable fillings to match your own teeth. These are an option for small to medium size fillings.

Oral Hygiene

To a great extent, the future of your teeth depends on good oral hygiene. Together with our dental hygienist, you will receive education on your mouth to ensure that you are cleaning and flossing correctly. It is our aim that patients understand the importance of good oral hygiene and achieve and maintain healthy smiles.

We at the Priors Dental Practice want you to understand the health of your mouth. Dental health is directly related to prevention, so correct brushing, flossing and completing any necessary dental work will help to avoid more serious complications.

Orthodontics

WHAT IS ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT?
Orthodontic treatment is usually aimed at straightening teeth and correcting bite problems. This generally involves wearing braces, which can be either fixed or removable. Both children and adults can benefit from orthodontic treatment. We are concerned not only with the correction of teeth, but also that of the facial profile. Our goal is to provide you with a smile you will be proud of.

Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is a means of saving a tooth that has been damaged by infection or deep decay. The purpose of the treatment is to restore the tooth to good health so that it can function properly. In this procedure, the infected or inflamed pulp of the tooth is removed, but the tooth itself is not.

Tooth Whitening
A simple technique used to remove most stains, including those within your teeth, by means of a gentle oxidising (bleaching) action. The result is to give your teeth a lighter white colour with an added brightness to your smile.

Veneers
A wafer-thin mask of tooth-coloured porcelain used to hide discolouration, misshapen teeth or to close gaps.
